Beauty + Wellness Trends for 2020

  1. DIVERSITY

diversity-in-the-beauty-industry.jpg

Diversity is top of the list for our Beauty Trends for 2020, but it definitely shouldn’t be just a trend for the year rather a lifestyle change for society. This is the year to build upon inclusivity in the beauty industry and strive to represent a wider array of people in beauty and beyond. To include all ethnicities, body types, and gender orientations in beauty campaigns and to feature products that are inclusive to all. We’ve seen brands like FENTY lead the way in diversity by making a collection of 40+ foundations and featuring models of all shapes, sizes, and ethnicities in their campaigns and photoshoots. Diversity is number one on our list because everyone deserves to feel represented and have options in the beauty industry and we are striving to become better at this every day.

For more information on diversity in beauty we’ve linked a great article about in New York Times:

Beauty Is More Diverse Than Ever. But Is It Diverse Enough?

2. VIRTUAL WELLNESS

We’ve seen apps popping up all over the place over the last few years and it does not look like it's going to be slowing down anytime soon. With the COVID-19 pandemic, more brands and companies are turning to VR to bring wellness plans straight to your phone or computer.

Here are just a few:

Headspace: Feeling a little on edge? Having trouble falling asleep? The Headspace app has sets of guided meditations aimed at tackling problems related to anxiety, sleeplessness, and relationships. This app has been downloaded more than 11 million times since it was first created and has so many great reviews! Defiantly worth checking out and seeing if it can help you.

Zoom: while Zoom is not a wellness app, it is trending and is one of the top buzzwords of the year. With companies having to postpone events and retreats, many have turned to zoom to host these events. Which in turn has given more people an opportunity to attend. Oprah is a major figure who has turned to Zoom to Launch a Live Virtual Experience on Wellness. And we know we will see many companies follow suit throughout the year.

How do you feel about attending events via zoom?

Virtual Consults: Did you know that we offer virtual consultations?  We know that time is important to you and if you have extra time right now you might be thinking about what services you are wanting to schedule. A virtual consultation is a perfect option to walk through a plan with one of our providers to figure out your treatment plan when we reopen!

3. SUSTAINABILITY

sustainablity-in-beauty.jpg

With more and more people taking the time to become aware of what is being put into their products and how their products are made, consumers are asking for a more sustainable future. Many companies are taking major strides in making their products safe for people and the planet, using only non-toxic ingredients for active results. With the documentary Toxic beauty recently launching, we think many people will take a harder look into what chemicals are in their beauty products.

Beauty Truth is a great resource to have bookmarked to become aware of toxic ingredients, beauty facts, and product safety.

Kevin.murphy is a great example of sustainability- starting now, they are converting their bottles to 100% reclaimed Ocean Waste Plastic (OWP) and in doing so, will save a projected 360 tons of plastic from the ocean each year. 4. CBD

CBD made a huge footprint last year as a NEW trend for your beauty and wellness plans and it has no plans to slow down.

Known for its healing properties, "cannabidiol offers some serious antioxidant and anti-inflammatory benefits which can be beneficial in treating skin concerns like inflammation, dryness and free radical damage," says Ildi Pekar, NYC-based aesthetician and founder of her own eponymous skincare line.

Urban You offers a CBD vibe facial using ILDI PEKAR’s high-quality products and it is definitely a trend you will not want to miss out on this year.

You can even head to our IGTV and check out one of our staff testing out the CBD facial.
