Microneedling: Get Rid of Wrinkles & Acne Scars Before Your Wedding
You’ve dreamt about your wedding for years; a day filled with joy, love, and cherished memories with your partner and family. The last thing you should be feeling on your special day is insecurity about acne scarring or wrinkles. As the center of attention, you want to look and feel your best from head to toe!
Microneedling is a safe cosmetic procedure that encourages skin cell turnover, so you can start the next chapter of your life with fresh, radiant skin. While its name may sound intimidating, microneedling is noninvasive and takes as little as 10 minutes per area. In this article, we’ll do a deep dive into the best skin treatment for removing acne scars and wrinkles.
What Is Microneedling?
Microneedling is a cosmetic procedure where wrinkled or scarred skin is pricked with tiny sterilized needles. The needles only penetrate the skin up to 1mm, which is about half the depth of a traditional tattoo needle. When the mini needles prick the skin around scarring or wrinkles, it induces the healing process. Think of it like healing from a paper cut or scrape, but on a microscopic level. Similarly to if you scraped your knee, your skin around the scars or wrinkles will heal itself and encourage new skin growth – the only difference is that you won’t be faced with large scabbing during the healing process.
To keep you comfortable during treatment, your certified provider will apply a numbing cream before the microneedling device goes anywhere near your skin. As mentioned, the needles only penetrate up to 1mm and sessions are as short as 10 minutes! Microneedling is suitable for most people, though it’s important that you don’t undergo treatment during an acne flare up or facial infection/injury. Your provider can help you take back control of your skin during a flare up with medical grade skincare recommendations from Urban You For Me. What Are The Benefits Of Microneedling?
Your skin does all the work
Microneedling has many benefits that set it apart from other wrinkle reducing treatments such as laser or Botox. One of those benefits is that microneedling doesn’t add anything new to the skin. Unlike Juvéderm or Botox, microneedling lets our bodies’ ability to heal and create collagen do the work. Collagen is our bodies’ supplier of protein and strength. When it comes to skin, collagen is a key player in having a youthful, radiant glow. Essentially, you’re replacing scars and wrinkles with healthier, younger looking skin. Because the results come from your skin itself, microneedling is a great option for anyone who doesn’t want to look like they’ve had work done.
Clinical studies
The Urban You offers microneedling with SkinPen, the first FDA approved microneedling device in the world. It’s been clinically proven to reduce the appearance of acne scars and neck wrinkles in as little as one month. SkinPen clinical studies found that:
94% of patients noticed an improvement in fine lines and wrinkles one month post-treatment
80% of patients noticed an improvement in acne scars one month post-treatment
Overall skin rejuvenation
Aside from clearing up blemishes, wrinkles, and scars, microneedling restores an overall radiance to the skin. By promoting increased blood circulation and stimulating collagen production, microneedling encourages a healthier and more vibrant complexion. It can also enhance the effectiveness of skincare products by allowing them to penetrate deeper into the skin, maximizing their benefits. Our microneedling package includes a PCA Skin post-procedure kit (currently 40% off!) perfect for sealing in hydration as your skin heals.
Microneedling FAQ
Does microneedling hurt? You may feel slight discomfort during the healing process, but microneedling itself should not be painful. Your provider will apply a topical numbing cream before treatment begins.
Can I go in the sun after microneedling? Short answer, no. Your skin will likely be very sensitive for the first 72 hours after treatment as it replenishes and develops a new top layer. After the first 24 hours, you should be able to resume your normal sun protection regimen. That being said, it’s extremely important to prioritize using a high quality SPF for at least the first two weeks after treatment.
Can I use skincare right after microneedling? Yes and no. It’s recommended that you only rinse your face with lukewarm water for the first 8 hours following treatment. After those 8 hours, you can return to using a gentle cleanser. You can use a light moisturizer directly after treatment, though! This should help with any tingling sensation.
Will microneedling leave scabs? You will develop tiny, round scabs around the treated area, but they will only last about 48 hours before going away on their own. These scabs do not have the same appearance as those from external injuries. Microneedling scabs are miniscule and only stick around for a couple of days.
Can I wear makeup after microneedling? You should avoid wearing makeup for the first 24 hours after treatment so your skin has time to heal over any tiny holes.
Is microneedling expensive? Microneedling typically ranges from $600-$700 per treatment, and most people need anywhere from 2-5 sessions to see peak results.
