Embracing Life as an Empty Nester with Terri DeBoer
Embracing Life as an Empty Nester
Terri DeBoer has been a television meteorologist at the NBC affiliate in Grand Rapids, MI for nearly 30 years. While she reports on the weather with every changing season, she has also gone through the changing seasons of life as she and her husband raised three children together.
In fact, Terri describes the season of becoming an empty nester as one of the most challenging times of her life. She quickly went from having too much to do and not enough time in the day to having too much time and not enough to do. Terri quickly realized that despite having a successful career and a happy marriage, she still struggled with the change of identity that comes when a mother is no longer needed by her children.
"When we are in our 70s and 80s, we are as satisfied with life as we were in elementary school."
In this episode, Nicole Gregory and Terri Deboer discuss the transition from being a busy mother to becoming an empty nester. They discuss Terriβs journey to finding her purpose again and learning to embrace her new life as an empty nester, all of which she documents in her book titled Brighter Skies Ahead: Forecasting a Full Life When You Empty the Nest.
