Urban You is excited to present our Humans of Urban You client spotlight, in an effort to be transparent and to share with you who we are, and more importantly - who makes us what we are!

Aligning with our mantra “Trends live here, YOU belong here”, our amazing clients come from all different backgrounds and utilize many of our services. You'll meet them and hear about their experiences with the #humansofurbanyou project.

UY: Describe yourself in three words:
D: Optimistic, patient, kind - I truly believe my parents instilled these characteristics in all of their ten children.

Tell us a little more:
Family: I am the youngest of nine siblings, "baby" of the family 100%! I am a mother to four amazing adults 23, 22, and twin 20-year-olds. Even though my husband and I are CMU grads (Fire up, Chips!) we are a "Maize & Blue" family!

Hobbies: Theater! I enjoy being on stage acting or in a seat watching! I have played a dancing Nun, a wicked step mother, a southern belle, and a sassy child.

Music: All genres, my saved radio dial has quite the variety- country, current pop, classic rock, even NPR has a spot!

Foods: ... is coffee a food? (we'll count it!)

What do you do for a living? Or tell us about any passion projects!
Currently, I teach middle school Life Skills, also known as Family and Consumer Science. In this class, health meets nutrition with a little sewing and cooking. I love teaching Reproductive Health, the questions the kids have! They’re all appropriate, but they are curious!

DREAM vacation or person to meet?
My dream vacation would either be Greece, Italy or Ireland. I would love to meet Ellen Degeneres.

What do you love about Grand Rapids? How long have you lived in the area?
I love the west side of Michigan - fantastic landscapes beautiful shorelines, amazing arts community and restaurants galore. I moved to Grand Rapids after college, and eventually settled in charming Rockford! What else could we need?

What services do you love at Urban You?
Urban You has a wide variety of services- personally, I enjoy their facials, brow services, and Kevin Murphy products. I also enjoy some of the Medical Spa services to keep my face looking brighter.

Which ones do you want to try?
In the future, I may consider Microneedling or CoolSculpting.
